Data Science Summer School 2017

In 2017 the Georg-August- Universität Göttingen hosted an International Summer School on Data Science for the first time.

The Date: July 10-21, 2017
The Location: Alte Mensa, Göttingen
The Topics: Multilayered topics and methods belonging to Data Science. Such as

  • Data lifecycle and data management
  • Infrastructures and platforms
  • Mathematical and statistical methods
  • Text analysis
  • Visualization and story telling
  • ELSA
  • Application examples

The Lectures: Lecturers from several disciplines enabled cross-disciplinary insights e. g.:

  • Dr. Jan Brase, Göttingen State and University Library (SUB)
  • Prof Dr. Jens Grabowski, Institute of Compute Science
  • Prof. Dr. Arnulf Quadt, Institute of Physics
  • Prof. Dr. Ulrich Sax, University Medical Center Göttingen
  • Dr. Philipp Wieder, Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung Göttingen (GWDG)

Keynotes by:

  • Prof. Dr. Hardy Peter (MPI for Solar System Research)
  • Prof. Dr. Gerhardt Wörner (Geoscience Center at the Faculty of Geoscience and Geography)

The Participants: The first Data Science Summer School welcomed 35 participants with multidisciplinary background. The participants were granted 3 ETCS for their work during the course.

The Organisation: The Summer School is organized jointly by the Institute of Computer Science, Göttingen International, the GWDG’s and SUB’s joint service unit on research data management – Göttingen eResearch Alliance, and the University Medical Centre.
